Few years ago, I was looking around for someplace to place my domains, a web hosting company that has a dedicated server to be specific. I wanted a dedicated system, so that I could manage the machine myself without any hassle. After having been slash dotted a couple of times, I also didn’t want to run on a ‘virtual’ system where the hosting provider might be cramming so many virtual servers on one machine that a bit of traffic makes them fall over. I don’t need much in the way of assistance – just a minimal help, and a guarantee that technical support are on call to deal with anything that can’t be handled over, such as the occasional reboot, or hardware problems.

My first web hosting company that I found seemed fine. They responded to my email inquiries quickly and professionally, and after receiving payment, got a server on-line for me very quickly. Nice! The problems started when the machine’s disk started to go a few weeks later. It happened on a weekend, and apparently no one was around that was able to fix it, because the machine was not back on line until the following day. No email and all my websites down for a weekend… very frustrating and stressful! After another misstep on their part, I decided that I’d signed up with a crap, and went looking for another provider.
